keeping the dark
the macrocarpa
keeps the dark
to itself however
strong the sun
blue the sky
green or yellow
the hay below
or loud the road
that turns
nearby.
the dark tight
in its branches
a dusting of light
on top to fool
the day.

Comment by Victoria Curtin on February 5, 2012 at 20:09 Very soothing... and that "dark tight in its branches"- I know that feeling under the trees.
Comment by Peter Le Baige on February 4, 2012 at 17:19 Same comment to both of you again, as I just posted. Wanda 'spotted' it; its a 'driving poem' conceived while turning countless bends on my down through the North Island and coming across those dark, cool trees. You're right, Aaron, macrocarpa console countless youth (I think).
Comment by Aaron Compton on February 3, 2012 at 22:00 good as gold as ever Peter, had a macrocarpa friend when I was a young fulla, good value especially in summer when that dark was a gift
Comment by Wanda on February 3, 2012 at 21:42 This is a like taking a drive in the country where everything is a mix of light and shadow...it's a cool, refreshing read...quite lovely Peter..
