Victoria Curtin commented on Kayla Collingwood's blog post Prelude to MelancholiaDo I intimidate you, boy,
Since I know who I am inside,
And because there is no way
That you can make me feel inferior?
Do I intimidate you, boy,
Because you aren’t hard as you think?
Your shaking knees give way
And give up on your false exterior.
Do I intimidate you, boy,
Because I know what I am worth,
And nothing you can say
Can ever make me less valuable?
Do I intimidate you, boy,
Because “now” is not an…

The phoenix rises to meet its maker;
Hark! Hear the great bells a-ringing.
A glorious dawning has come here today -
the choir, arrived, are singing.
'Gloria in exelcis Deo',
and speech is reverent whisper,
for the King who has come here today
arouses wonder-filled shivers.
The faces of martyrs are golden and shining;
they need relief no more.
For the One who has come here today
has paid the debts for all.

There is a burst, a flicker, a glow.
I was falling at a lightning pace,
and all too well did I know it.
I was reclusive, back to the depths;
I've been here before, in this shadowy place.
Like a frightened spider I hide

yet I try and I try to survive
on my own, still always serving.
My shoulders are strong - I help others bear loads…

My loneliness has been awakened
like the dawning of all new things.
Spring is here, but so is autumn;
songs are here, but so is silence,
and only whispers fill the air
around little, quiet me.
My heart can sleep no more;
it has slept too many hours.
This alarm intruded, alerting me to you.
I would have never seen you, never,
had you let my eyes be closed,
in blissful dreams on clouds.…

Victoria Curtin said… Seven years old! How sweet! You should google Laura Edmond and read some of her poetry, written from age 5 through to 10.
Keep writing Kayla...
Bye for now

Victoria Curtin said… Good for you! All the best. When did you start writing poetry? You look very young. It's important to value your early poetry I think. Something special in the first pieces we write. I wonder what you'll call your book? I hope it's the first of many more for you. I see you have just commented on another of my poems; thanks so kindly! I wrote this about thirty minutes ago in a rush. Sometimes it's best that way... sometimes it's a disaster lol. Take care
Victoria Curtin said… Hello Kayla, and happy New Year! Thank you for commenting on my poem, Matakatia Bay. How is your book coming along?
